NRCC Attacks New Republican Griffith As Democrat, Claims It Was Meant To Target Rep. Bright (AL-2)

Huntsville Tea Party Leaders React to the NRCC’s Gaffe

Last week, it was reported that the NRCC (National Republican Congressional Committee) had sent out a fundraising letter soliciting donations for the purpose of defeating the Democrat representing Alabama’s 5th Congressional District.  The letter was incorrect, as Rep. Parker Griffith switched parties in December and is now a Republican.  NRCC spokesman Andy Sere followed up, saying the incident was an administrative error and that the letter was actually intended for Alabama’s 2nd district, held by Rep. Bobby Bright.  Sere also stated that North Alabamians have “abandoned the Obama-Pelosi party in droves because its liberal agenda is dismissive of their values and hostile toward their interests,” saying that Parker Griffith has “stood up against the Democrat bosses” and that the NRCC is “delighted to have his conservative voice in the Republican conference.”

“There is a problem with Mr. Sere’s explanation,” says Christie Carden, founder of the Huntsville Tea Party, “Parker Griffith's voting record is historically more liberal than Bobby Bright's, the Democrat the NRCC is attacking. At the time of Griffith’s party switch he had voted with Pelosi roughly 85% of the time while Bright had voted with her only 71% of the time. If the original letter was befitting of Bright, it should be suitable for Griffith.”

“As Tea Party activists, we are working to elect candidates that align with our core principles of limited government, fiscal responsibility, individual liberty, and free market economics. We hope that political parties and establishment will choose to embrace our core principles, but know that our movement was started by the people and will be continued by the people.”
