Our state is considering its own stimulus bill right now!  The bill is SB121 and you can read about it here.  http://blog.al.com/spotnews/2010/01/alabama_gov_bob_rileys_draft_b.html

Governor Riley is in support of this legislation.  Please contact him, as well as your state legislators, and ask them to kill this bill.  You can contact Gov. Riley here and you can contact your state legislators here.  SB121 is currently being discussed on the Senate floor. I am told that yesterday the Dem's stalled for 1 hour then they gave up the microphone and Senator Brooks(R) offered an amendment that would not allow the Trust fund to be used at all.  His amendment would only allow the bill to pay out $100 million annually or the amount of Gas & Oil Royalties put into the fund annually, whichever amount is less.  His amendment protects the entire amount saved to date.  Senator Barron did not like his amendment and wants to table it. Tomorrow at 10 a.m. the Senate reconvenes and debate resumes.  Senator Barron is the sponsor and point man on the bill.  Bombarb him with e-mails and phone calls tomorrow if possible.  The secretaries arrive at 8:30 a.m.  Call the House at 334-242-7600 and call the Senate at 334-242-7800.  District 7 Sen.

Paul Sanford has been a leading opponent to this legislation.  You can call him for any questions or comments at 256-652-5293.  Also, I have learned that Paul and several other Senators have become targets of robo calls saying that they oppose job creation (this so-called stimulus bill), that they support a gas tax to pay for pet projects, and that they are working for themselves and not for the people.  It is thought these calls can be traced back the the Senate (334-242-7800).  If you oppose this legislation, and those tactics, please let them know!  We need to support candidates who are opposing this bad piece of legislation on our behalf.  Make your voice known.
