Our state is considering its own stimulus bill right now! The bill is SB121 and you can read about it here. http://blog.al.com/spotnews/2010/01/alabama_gov_bob_rileys_draft_b.html
Governor Riley is in support of this legislation. Please contact him, as well as your state legislators, and ask them to kill this bill. You can contact Gov. Riley here and you can contact your state legislators here. SB121 is currently being discussed on the Senate floor. I am told that yesterday the Dem's stalled for 1 hour then they gave up the microphone and Senator Brooks(R) offered an amendment that would not allow the Trust fund to be used at all. His amendment would only allow the bill to pay out $100 million annually or the amount of Gas & Oil Royalties put into the fund annually, whichever amount is less. His amendment protects the entire amount saved to date. Senator Barron did not like his amendment and wants to table it. Tomorrow at 10 a.m. the Senate reconvenes and debate resumes. Senator Barron is the sponsor and point man on the bill. Bombarb him with e-mails and phone calls tomorrow if possible. The secretaries arrive at 8:30 a.m. Call the House at 334-242-7600 and call the Senate at 334-242-7800. District 7 Sen.
Paul Sanford has been a leading opponent to this legislation. You can call him for any questions or comments at 256-652-5293. Also, I have learned that Paul and several other Senators have become targets of robo calls saying that they oppose job creation (this so-called stimulus bill), that they support a gas tax to pay for pet projects, and that they are working for themselves and not for the people. It is thought these calls can be traced back the the Senate (334-242-7800). If you oppose this legislation, and those tactics, please let them know! We need to support candidates who are opposing this bad piece of legislation on our behalf. Make your voice known.

Organizers of the Huntsville Tea Party Movement issued the following statement this morning regarding President Obama's first annual State of the Union address: "The President's speech last night was initially promising in its recognition of many of the basic problems we are facing as a nation, problems that as of yet have appeared to be of secondary importance to this administration. While we appreciate the President finally acknowledging that job creation is more important than solving dubious climate change issues and nationalizing our health-care system, it is more clear than ever that the President continues to view government as superior to the private sector as a solution to any issue we might face," said Chad Capps, spokesman for the Tea Party group. "Endless stimulus programs and government bailouts have had little measurable effect on employment rates, despite record setting trillions of dollars in deficit spending. President Obama's ideology prevents him from acknowledging the unique role of American entrepreneurship in creating stable jobs and upward mobility. The government has become an obstacle to growth, with a taxation and regulation structure that makes all of the hassles of overseas operation financially prudent. The President's constant beration of the private sector, and continued proposal of government spending bills as the solution to all of our woes, is irrefutable evidence that President Obama has closed his eyes to any solution that does not align with his worldview."

We want to share a few very important facts with you. Recently an article from 2006 was uncovered headlined "(Parker) Griffith calls for universal health care."
So, now we know that 4 years ago Griffith was fighting for government-run health care similar to what was adopted in Massachusetts. Very soon after, Jesse Ferguson with the DCCC released a statement saying, "Only two years ago, Representative Griffith represented the Democratic Party on the ballot and said he supported universal health care..." http://dccc.org/newsroom/entry/parker_griffith_for_universal_health_care_before_hes_against_it/ This account tells us that only 2 years ago (the year he ran for U.S. Congress) he was for universal health care. Both of these accounts directly contradict Griffith's statement to The Huntsville Times on Dec. 24 (two days after his party switch), "I haven't changed...I didn't go further to the right." We have asked Griffith to explain these statements and contradictions, as part of the questionnaire sent to him, and will post his answers when we receive them. His support for government-run health care directly violates every single core principle of the Tea Party movement: limited government, fiscal responsibility, individual liberties, and the free market. Please heed this information and help us elect the best candidate to Congress for the 5th Congressional District.
Here is a scanned copy of the orginal article from the Huntsville Times, 5/31/2006.
